What it does
Benefits
- Its action is to suppress the exudates of the crop that trigger broomrape germination; the broomrape seed in the soil is stimulated less and less broomrape emerges in the root zone.
- It masks the root exudates required for broomrape germination. Acting much like a signal jammer, it reduces the ability of broomrape seeds to detect these root exudates.
- At the same time, by forming new and very strong root hairs, it increases the capacity of the root to carry the broomrape load. So to speak, it raises the carrying capacity of the root from that of a van to that of a lorry.
- Despite all this, in cases of severe disease pressure and a heavy presence of Orobanche seed in the soil, those seeds that do germinate may attach to the root.
- At this stage, the 2nd application of Orabion halts the flow of nutrients to the broomrape. Unable to feed, the broomrape stops damaging the plant. The plant therefore experiences less broomrape stress. Yield losses are reduced to a minimum.
- For these reasons Orabion is not a herbicide. It is a plant activator that reduces broomrape stress.
